This is an online application that we've been using in the high school techApps classes, Zoho.com. This is a comprehensive office suite similar to Microsoft's Office apps or Google's online docs except it offers so much more. I strongly encourage you to check it out for yourself!

We are using it to do group projects involving spreadsheets and the Sheets app interfaces almost perfectly with Excel, so they are able to work on it in Excel, upload to Zoho and share with their partners and me. Only the people that they share documents with can see them.

This has great potential for household organizing, businesses and, of course, educators! Be looking for your student to become more familiar with Zoho.com.

Just what is Technology Applications?

click to learn more about Mrs. Maddox Technology Applications encompass the Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, Publisher, Power Point) as well as graphics, video, and Internet/web applications. We also cover the history and the makeup of a personal computer, organization of computer files, copyright issues, research techniques, evaluation of information found on the web and basic web design. My goal is to integrate an efficient use of technology into the everyday lives of our students, as well as to introduce them to new ideas and experiences in the world of technology.

All assignments and extra resources will be posted for both High School and Middle School on their individual class pages so that you can keep up with what we're doing. Please be sure your student knows those resources are there so they may benefit as well.

Important Note About Digital Assignments: .rtf files

FWAFA computers are equipped with WinXP Pro and Office2003. Due to the variety of platforms and programs our students use in which to do their work, fwAFA requests that you save your files as an .rtf, Rich Text Format file. When you save your document, find the .rtf extension in the drop down file type menu.

Classroom Policy

keyboard Tardiness
If a student is tardy coming into class or is not in his/her seat preparing for class, I will hand him/her a pink slip that s/he must fill out explaining why they're late. If this isn't turned in by the end of the period, s/he will be marked absent for that class period.

Turning in Assignments
There is a hanging file system that will sit on the table in the middle of the room. When an assignment is due, the student simply places it in the "in" folder for his/her class period.

Assignments
If your student doesn't have his/her work ready to turn in, they must turn in a "placeholder," a document that explains why they aren't turning in their work - these are available in a folder at the front of the filing system previously referred to. You will see an "/" in SnapGrades when this has happened, indicating a missing assignment. They will then need to turn that assignment in at the beginning of their next class period with me to still receive full credit. I reserve the right to change the value of late assignments when that policy appears to become abused.

Absences
When a student is absent, s/he must keep up with our work by checking their class page on the web site. I try to be detailed in how I post assignments for occasions such as this. If there are questions, I'm only an email away!

Daily Participation Grade
Each Middle School student starts the day with 5 points and deductions will be made based on class participation. To stay at a "5", the student will be engaged in what we're doing, doesn't cause distractions, and is contributing in a constructive way to the class. I will try to make a note in SnapGrades for daily participation grades of a 3 or below.

High School students will be randomly be given participation grade, based on my observations.

Grading Assignments
If there is no rubric for a particular assignment, I will use a plus/check/minus system: plus = 100, check = 85, minus = 75.

How Grades are Weighted
20% - Assignments
30% - Tests/Quizzes
20% - Participation
30% - Middle School Final Exam
